Faces of Dementia

An exhibition at Sefton Park Palm House 13.5.24-16.5.24

The images were taken over a period of 12 months from April 2023 at Sedgemoor Dementia Hub in Liverpool. I went to Sedgemoor at least once per week. Only when I had the trust and confidence of the group did I start taking photos. This began after the fourth week.

Technically it was challenging at times because there was no control over lighting, background and posing. A selection of the images is below.

As the number of images grew the group were shown a slideshow created in Lightroom. Jimmy asked when he saw his portrait ‘ is that me? is that what I really look like?”

Living with Dementia

This set of photographs follows on from faces of dementia group and includes the partner of the person living with dementia. The idea was to give the couples an opportunity to tell their stories. This collection was exhibited at the Palm House during Dementia week 2025. More exhibitions are planned for 2026.
